Don’t debate. Discuss.
If you feel like it’s getting harder to talk to each other, you’re not alone
Some of the most important conversations are also the most difficult to have. Talking about social, ideological, and political issues can easily turn into arguments.
But they don’t have to be this way.
Have better discussions
When we talk about contentious issues it’s easy for our conversations to turn into debates. Debates pit sides against one another, split us into groups of “us” and “them,” and put us in the mindset of trying to defeat our opponents.
Discussions are about working together to better understand complex issues. We don’t have to agree, but we do need to approach issues with a willingness to listen.
